A third painting about a sea creature that lives in a shell. Unlike the hermit crab and the octopus in my previous paintings, the shell is actually the natural home of the creature.
I find the shell amazingly beautiful with its bold design. It also has a very interesting internal design, with a spiral of chambers. The geometry of the spiral is claimed to be related to the golden rule, so perhaps has special relevance for artists? but some say it isnt exactly the same…but it still is very graceful.
Originally I was going to call the painting “The Naughty Nautilus” – I thought he looked like he’s on the prowl, looking bad. But now that it is finished, he also looks a bit bewildered and maybe even hesitant, hence “not so Naughty”…
